1. Preparation
- Clean Your Car Thoroughly: Wash and dry the car to remove dust, grease, and wax. A clean surface ensures the vinyl adheres properly.
- Remove Obstacles: Take off badges, antennas, trim, and, if possible, door handles and mirrors. This allows for a smooth wrap and neat edges.
2. Measuring and Cutting
- Measure Each Section: Cut pieces of vinyl slightly larger than needed for each section (hood, doors, roof, etc.).
- Plan Seams Carefully: Where panels meet, plan how the foil will overlap for a seamless look.
3. Applying the Vinyl
- Peel & Stick: Peel the backing off the vinyl and lay it carefully onto the section. A second person can help prevent it from sticking in the wrong place.
- Smooth Air Bubbles: Use a squeegee or a plastic applicator to press the vinyl onto the car, working from the center outward to push out air bubbles.
- Use Heat: A heat gun helps the vinyl become more flexible and can help stretch it around curves or corners. Don’t overheat.
4. Trimming and Finishing
- Trim Edges: With a sharp hobby knife, trim away excess vinyl around edges, making sure to tuck edges under trims when possible.
- Reinstall Components: Replace the items you removed (badges, handles, mirrors, etc.).
- Final Inspection: Look for air bubbles or loose edges. Use a pin to gently remove any remaining bubbles and push them flat.
5. Care and Maintenance
- Wait a few days before washing your car.
- Wash with mild soap and water—avoid high-pressure sprays targeting the edges.
Tip: Wrapping a car takes patience and some skill! If you’re unsure, consider practicing on smaller panels, or consult a professional for best results.
